Stack Split in Aeolian Pianos
By Robbie Rhodes

G'day all,
Dan Wilson has given us the story of how the changed DA stack
split was meant to have occurred. It sounds just like many similar
unrelated bungles since! I was quite happy in my ignorance until this
matter came up --- I wish it hadn't been mentioned! My Stroud is
1914 and would have the 44/44 split whereas most rolls would be
43/45. Or did Aeolian put the accents on both sides as well, I
wonder? It seems to me that that it would have been better to do this
than changing the standard in mid stream, but then keeping quiet about
the rogue ones! If it took so long to discover, it would have gone
unnoticed by most owners, or was there a Ralph Nader around even then
to blow the whistle? This makes me wonder if they really had intended
to make the change after all. Does anyone know if Aeolian double cut
those accents, at least for a period, bearing in mind that there could
have been many thousands made with the original 44/44 split and does
anyone else have any dates as to when it happened?

Cheers,
Darrell
