Couple of weeks ago, I posted some pictures on my home page of an
unidentified barrel operated orchestrion, inviting interested persons
to have a look at them, and perhaps offer some thoughts on identity.

That orchestrion has been identified as one built by E. DIENST, c.
1910.  Based on some suggestions, the manufacturer's name was found
hidden inside the case.  Within Bowers' Encyclopedia, a close match may
be seen as a tiny illustration on the bottom left corner of page 394 -
tall case, 3rd on right.

The owner has been in touch with me, extends his appreciation for the
help extended.  Another owner of a similar instrument, Dr. Klaus
Schutt, in Germany has been found with the help of Mike Barnhart's
recent AMICA Instruments Listing, and the two have been linked up
together.  He too has been invited to join AMICA.

He tells me his grandfather emigrated from Germany to Brazil in 1910
and brought the instrument with him.  In recent years, numerous people
have seen it  in Brazil, but till now, it had not been identified.

Another fine example of the InterNet at work, doing what it does best!
