Of Organs and Band Organs
By Dan Copeland

First: Hello I'm Edward "Dan" Copeland from Saint Paul, Minnesota. I have
been interested "player" things for about as long as I can remember. I have
worked as a pipe organ tech, and now service reed organs as a hobbie. My
roommate and I have a small collection of various instruments including a
small theatre organ (2/9), an Ampico, and a Coinola (piano w/ Mandolin).

I have been thinking about the possibility of adding a band organ roll
reader to the organ, and I am wondering what the most common roll for that
type of instrument is?

[ Editor's Note: There are many organ roll formats. A couple
[ of them, Moller and Aeolean, have so many holes that they use
[ a 2-row tracker bar. Its tough to get two manuals, pedals,
[ and stops in the narrow format used for band and dance-hall
[ organs. A number of our readers have built custom MIDI interfaces
[ in addition to roll readers...

Also, what sorts of presures are band organs on?

We also have a 2 manual 10 rank Estey reed organ (with pedals), and I am
wondering how common these are?

Thank you¶
Edward "Dan" Copeland
