Introduction
By Walt Carroll

Greetings All,

As a new member of MMD an introduction is probably appropriate. As you
have probably already figured out, my name is Walt Carroll. I live in
Palo Alto, California (USA) and work at Hewlett Packard as a Technical
Maintenance Supervisor. In a previous posting (my first) I requested
info for parts suppliers on the west cost. Many thanks to Howard Wyman
for pointing me towards Pacific Piano Supply in Hollywood, CA.

I became interested in player pianos because my wife had always wanted
one since she was a little kid playing one that her great grandmother
had. I bought her one for Christmas last year. It is an Aeolian built
around 1926, based on the serial number. Needless to say she loves it.
We are running out of space to store rolls. Hence we try to keep an eye
out for roll cabinets.

My hobby was restoring old cars. I had just finished restoring a 1967
Mercury Cougar and I was looking for something else to do. Finished is
probably a poor choice of words as there is ALWAYS something to do on
old cars just to keep it running. Anyway, I pretty much decided to get
out of the old car hobby because of the expense and the ever toughening
smog laws. The expense of restoring an old car never even comes close
to what it's really worth. We happened onto a second player by accident
and my wife suggested rebuilding a player as an alternative hobby.
I have since found a third player, but for lack of space, gave it to my
'best buddy' knowing that his wife had wanted one also.

Anyway, here I am. Since I am still in the learning mode I don't know
that I have much to offer. Yet. My interest right now is finding parts
(thanks, Howard. Any other suppliers out there anybody?) and learning
what others do for rebuilding players. The "tricks of the trade", so
to speak. Also, since I have started working on an old Price-Teeple
Player, I would be interested in hearing anything at all about this
brand. History, rebuilding tricks, where to find info., diagrams.
Anything.

So that's who I am and what I'm interested in at the moment. I will try
to help if I can, drawing on my technical maintenance background. For
now I may be low-key and learn what I can.

Oh, yes. Even though I don't have a lot of space, I'm still interested
in finding player pianos around the San Francisco Bay area that are for
sale if the price is right.
