Introduction
By Doug McDonald

Having read the last week's worth of correspondence, I thought it time
to throw my email hat into the ring.

I recently inherited, from my parents, an old Story & Clark player that
my father (an engineer) restored, refinished, and electrified (although
the bellows can be reattached). I was told that this piano was built
around 1910. Having grown up pumping it, I have a sentimental
attachment to it, but am not really sure what to do with it, given that
its scale is larger than any of our rooms can handle.

My taste in music runs to new jazz, but I also love old rags and other
early piano jazz (but I have few such rolls). Are there any
commercial suppliers of rolls for this piano, or does the market
consist entirely of private enthusiasts who trade among themselves?

The alternative to buying more rolls for it is to find another owner
--a course of action that my family prefers. Are there
identifiable networks of buyers and sellers for these pianos?
