In his liner notes Denis Condon implied that, like other piano roll
artists, George Gershwin performed in "New York supper clubs and
speakeasies."

Perhaps Gershwin occasionally played a song for fun, as he did at
parties, but I've not read that he was employed as a lounge
pianist/entertainer.  He had better ways to earn a living!
