1. Andy LaTorre's point about cupping the roll punch is extremely
   valuable.  The cupping should be different for a roll punch since
   only the first hole in an extended perf actually cuts on the front
   and back at once. The cupping is not like a dish, but like a
   cylinder placed crosswise to the direction of roll travel. For
   punching rolls, leave a longer edge on the punch at the back (tab
   end) than the front. The shortest edges are at the sides which cut
   last. This way the tab end of the punch enters the die first, often
   through a previous paper hole, thus it will be supported in the die
   as the trailing edge cuts the paper. The punch will not be thrown
   off center that way.

   This subtlety was not necessary with the teletypes, of course, as
   they only punched full round holes. The ejection works best, of
   course, with full round holes being punched, and there are enough of
   those in rolls to help clear the crescent-moon chaff created by the
   extended holes.
