During the 1970s,  I used a similar system with my automated musical
assemblages.  Brian McLaughlin,  whose dad owned Sphere Electronics in
Chatsworth, CA,  was a very gifted technician who was intimately
familiar with the CMOS circuits and drivers of those days.  You might
see if Sphere Electronics is still in business;  Don McLaughlin was the
owner (the Dad) and Brian (the kid) did the work for me.  But I used an
8-track player;  the tapes were always stretching and the compositions
would only last a few playings.  If anyone can help you,  Brian
McLaughlin can.
