Phonola Rolls
By Michael Waters

Wayne Stahnke asked about Phonola rolls:

I have about 100 of these rolls and I play them on a 73 note pushup.
You can check out what it looks like at :

http://www.ruralnet.net.au/~mwaters/pushup.html

I can't remember off hand the exact roll width (I can check it out if you
want) but I think it's about 11 1/2 inches, the hole spacings are at 6 holes
per inch.¶
The interesting thing about these rolls is that some of them are themodist
rolls (not all) and the expression holes for this are in the centre of the
roll, these expression holes are quite obvious as they are slightly narrower
than the playing holes.¶
These rolls also run in reverse direction to standard 88 not rolls. Most
of these rolls are from German origins ( as this is where the Claviola
pushup was made). They have water marks on the roll also with the year it
was produced and the name Phonola on it.
