Player Pipe Organ
By Carl Dodrill

In response to Karl Ellison's question about getting information
concerning player pipe organs, I have found that the best way to do
this is to get on the information lines of regular pipe organs. We got
out 1927 Aeolian Duo Art (2m9r) pipe organ through the classifieds in
THE AMERICAN ORGANIST. Having read those adds for about 5 years, I
would say on the average that there are 2 or 3 per year sold there.
THE DIAPASON is a periodical which also lists them, again at the rate
of a small number per year. I hope that you are a member of AMICA
whose periodicals also occasionally list them. Finally, subscribe to
PIPEORG-L, the list to which your message was also forwarded by your
friend, Dick Berry. One was listed there for sale only last week. In
general, the automatic musical instrument people list few of these; it
is really in the pipe organ realm where you find them, and even then
they are not common.

One additional thought is to be sure that whatever instrument you get
has rolls available to play the music which you want played. Aeolian
without a doubt had the broadest spectrum of music with the largest
number of rolls. Moller may have had a finer player, but the rolls
available are much more limited. Other players deserve individual
attention to be sure that the rolls which are actually available will
do what you want them to do.
