The Wurlitzer Style 160 "Mammoth"
By Marty Roenigk

Matthew Caulfield inquired about Wurlitzer "Monsters" and "Mammoths".

We have up for sale our Wurlitzer Style 160 "Mammoth", which originally
operated on a barrel (can you imagine!) and then from 122-note rolls.
Our intention is to have it restored by Wayne & Alan Holton in Texas,
under the auspices of Alan Bies. The case and parts of the mechanism
will first be restored by Ed Openshaw in New Hampshire, and that process
has already started.

Our further intention is to take the organ back to 122-note rolls (of
which there are none known, unfortunately) and to have new music composed
for it by Wayne Holton. We have thoughts of supplementing this with MIDI,
but all of that is a bit down the road as the basic restoration will
probably take a year. And we may sell the organ in the meantime and
then it would be up to the buyer what to do.

To the best of my knowledge there are two "Monsters" and two "Mammoths"
in existence. The smaller "Monsters" include Dr. Bill Black's, which has
some original music with it. The second "Mammoth" is also currently
undergoing restoration.

Again -- if anyone has any knowledge of 122-note Wurlitzer band organ
rolls out there, it sure would be helpful.

Sincerely,

Marty Roenigk
