The Largest Digital Piano
By Robbie Rhodes

In "Keyboard" magazine for January 1997 is a glossy, high-key announce-
ment of the new 5-foot 5-inch all-electronic digital grand piano, the
"Concerto" by Viscount, which they say is the largest digital piano in
the world. My goodness! Will wonders never cease?!

Among the Viscount's features is "an 88-note keyboard with hammer action,"
and, of course, all the electronic on-board effects that no contemporary
keyboardist can do without. The photograph shows a very sleek appearing
grand piano (with pedal lyre, too!), and it will probably fool most
passers-by. But does it _sound_ like a real piano? They didn't say...

Nearby is an announcement of the new Kurzweil digital mini-grand piano
with provisions for 325 orchestral sounds, augmenting the weighted-action
Kurzweil keyboard.
