Re: Pouch Leather and Valves
By Bruce Clark

Thank you Mr. Goodman for sharing your experience with different types of
leather. You did not say much about zephyr, but several years ago, I was
about to tackle a Seeburg L, which originally had zephyr leather for it's
pouches.

A well experienced supplier-restorer told me that zephyr skin is not the
thing for any pouches, because of it's susceptibility to humidity
changes, (shrinkage) and certain insects that might find it a very tasty
meal. He suggested that I use regular thin tan pouch leather which I did,
and it has been very good.

In regard to Gordon Forcier's problem with leakage, I once had a problem
similar, and found that the valve disks would take on a slight curl and
not seat properly during the heating season (especially if the summer
season is extremely humid). Also pouches can shrink, and the valves
might be riding off their seats. I suggest removing a unit valve or two,
and checking their tightness, before getting into extensive disassembly
