Re: D.C. Motor Problem
By Michel Goffin

Thanks Robbie for your kind message and your very interesting details
on electric surge. I'm not surprised that would be the source of the
problem; during raining season (now) we get gigantic storms with
lightning in the city.

Flea market in Jakarta: there is one on jalan Surabaya, which has a
reputation of being a tourist trap (like they all are), but I think it is
worth having a look, especially if you are collecting everything related
to Marine instruments, barometer, etc. There are sometimes music boxes
but in a tragic condition due to climate.

Could you give the contact of your friend in Jakarta, the Swiss engineer.
That's all I need: somebody with some technical knowledge because I don't
think it is a major problem.

Ian Griggs, the genious artcraft man who restored my Welte/Baldwin,
lives in Sydney: 88 Excelsior Av., Castle Hill 2154 Sydney (tel:
02-6347210). He is very nice and extremely competent in reproducing
pianos but I don't think he has a email contact. I contacted him for the
motor but he said he "subcontracted" that part to a certain Peter, whom
I'm trying to contact again. ... There are lots of reproducing fans in
Australia (my previous posting), a very good friend of mine being Denis
Condon who edited the "Condon collection" of his rolls on CD.

I will send you some details on the motor and control board but can I
send it directly to you? I don't think everybody wants to read about all
that techno babble ...

[ I shall contact my Swiss friend for you this weekend, and I await
[ the motor details. It's likely that your small motor is used in
[ other contemporary pianos and will be known by our piano-tech
[ members, so I'll publish it when it arrives.
 [ Cheers, Robbie
