MIDI Standard
By Meta Brown

[1st message:] Is MIDI a single well-defined standard or are there
multiple versions of MIDI?

[2nd message, 30 minutes later:] After sending the query about MIDI,
I did a search and found some excellent sites describing MIDI details
galore. This site has excellent information and links on MIDI:

 [ Editors note:
 [
[ Good going, Meta! In answer to 1st message: The MIDI Association
[ published and still maintains a single specification of "standard" MIDI
[ functions which comprise the basic General MIDI capabilities of most
[ sequencers. Not all MIDI editing programs will preserve the standard
[ functions during editing, however, and not all sequencers implement
[ extensions to General MIDI in the same fashion. Our member George
[ Bogatko is arrangeing several instumental styles now with MIDI,
 [ including nickelodeon MIDI files!
