Full Scale Piano Rolls
By Jim Canavan

I picked up a wonderful roll in a local junk shop the other day:
an 88-note Themodist Metrostyle roll of Fucik's "Thunder & Blazes"
(aka "Entry of the Gladiators"). Boy, when they said "88-note" they
*meant* it -- it's the first roll I've had (in my brief 3 years of roll
collecting) that uses note #1 and note #87 (I was really hoping it would
use #88, too!).

Anyway, it got me wondering: how often were these top and bottom notes used
in piano rolls? I know a lot of later pianos only use 80 playing notes, but
my York/Standard dates from 1925, and fortunately has all 88. Now if only
it was a Themodist! :)
