Organ Musical Boxes
By Brian Chesters

Hello all, From the Isle of Man, More on musical boxes.

Firstly, I have a large musical box by Bendon (I think) with a 15-key
organ. It plays six airs and the cylinder is being re-pinned by Jim Wier
in Scotland. The organ bridges only needed 'Tweaking' so the cylinder is
being re-pinned in two halves.

I have to re-cover the bellows. So my question is, What kind of leather
do I use and where do I get it from?

I spent three years recovering player piano actions so I am not worried
by this one but I would like to use the right material if there is such a
thing as the right stuff.

Secondly, I have been shown a musical box for sale which is an "All
organ" box. Made by Ducummon Girod, it plays six tunes and has no combs,
just the organ mechanism. The guy wanted =L=2500 for it (about 4000 USD).
I thought it was way over but I had not seen one of that size before, the
only other one I have seen was as big as my organ box. This one is as
small as an 'Ordinary' musical box.
