Rebuilding Standard Double Valve Action
By Marc Finlen

Good Day to all, I recently told you all about the player piano that we
had purchased. Mr. Tuttle responded with his very informative article
(Thank you very much Mr. Tuttle, by the way it is a Standard Double Valve
Action). Work is required but manageable. Now for the questions.

I need to replace the bridal straps. I'm not really inclined to pull the
entire action and reglue all new straps. Has anyone had success with the
clip-on varieties (I can hear the professionals groaning already!)? Some
pros and cons would be helpful.

Also, upon further review, I need to replace _all_ the white fronts and
tops (this is mainly due to stains on the tops and fronts that will not
come off, tried using soap and water, soft scrub, extra fine steel wool,
no results). The literature has descriptions for four basic materials.
Again pros and cons would be appreciated. I'm leaning towards simulated
ivories (.045 thick) that can be attached with contact cement.

There is a clear plastic tube running from the lower pump to the wind
motor. I'm pretty sure this is not the right type of tubing. Any
suggestions for the right type would be appreciated.

I will need to rebuild the wind motor pneumatics. I've found a supplier
for the pneumatic cloth but could not find any hinge material. Anyone
have a source, preferably in the US. Appreciate any and all responses.

Thanks.

Marc Finlen
