Mechanical Music in Italy
By Dan Wilson

I was very interested in Marco Riva's post about the Italian roll-makers
FIRST. When I was Editor of the (London) Player-Piano Group Bulletin in
1989 I wrote to Antonio Latanza in Rome asking if he knew anything about
FIRST. He responded with a very good article about the then recent
setting-up of the manufacture of Fazioli pianos in Milan, which all
started (does MMD know this ?) as a project to make from scratch and
market a new, top-quality, Duo-Art concert grand piano. So I wasn't
inclined to complain !

Yes, more about FIRST, please ! The rolls do turn up here in small
quantity, as do the Spanish "Victoria" rolls.

[ The pianos of Fazioli sounds interesting, too. Can you tell us
[ more about that, Dan? -- Robbie
