Keyboard Divisions in Reproducing Pianos
By Robbie Rhodes

This note received yesterday from MMDer Mark Fontana:

> Robbie, Do you happen to know where the stack split point is for
> each of the systems Duo-Art, Ampico A, Ampico B, Welte?
>
> I think it is between E and F (above middle C) for several of these.
> But in several books I checked out from the library, the split points
> are not mentioned at all.

Here's the start of a list. I hope my memory is correct...! I use "Midi
Note Numbers" (wherein Middle C is defined as note 60C) showing highest
bass/lowest treble note:

  Bass Division Treble Div. System
   - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

  21A -- 108A Modern 88-key piano
  12A -- 108A 97-key Boesendorfer Imperial

  23B - 64E 65F - 105A Ampico A & B (83 notes)
  25C# - 62D 63D# - 104G# Duo-Art (80 notes)
  ? ? Welte (all versions)

We need help from the Digest folks for this, Mark. I'd like to expand
this list to encompass all the reproducing and expression pianos with
"split stacks."
