Pneumatic vs. Solenoid Action
By Robbie Rhodes

One week ago John Tuttle wrote an article at his web site entitled
"Solenoid Sarcasm... Personal Thoughts". The MMD authors originally
mentioned in the article felt they were misrepresented, and as a result
John made minor changes in the page and re-posted it. It's now at his
web site; the URL is

   http://www.playercare.com/solenoid.html

MMD authors Neil Rosenberg, Scott Currier and Jody Kravitz wrote
responses to John in a brief but lively flurry, and I subsequently asked
if their letters could be published in MMD. I asked John if he would
like to also publish his article in the Digest, but he declined, and
explained that his opinions are not new and he has expressed them before.
He wrote to me,

> The title, 'Solenoid Sarcasm... Personal Thoughts', was chosen
> specifically to entice visitors to read the page. I could have
> called the page, 'The Pitfalls of Solenoid Operated Player Pianos',
> but I think the word 'Sarcasm' will attract more attention.
> Only time will tell."

The letters following were written to John Tuttle in response to the
original version of his article, which he has since modified.
