Converting MIDI to Reproducing Piano Rolls
By Bryan Cather

It has occurred to me every time I visit Custom Music Rolls that someone
(not me) ought to be able to come up with a computer program to convert
MIDI dynamic codes into AMPICO or Welte-Mignon expression codings for
their perforator. (I left out Duo-Art on purpose: CMR's perforator
can't make snakebite perfs.)

I spoke briefly about this with Janet Tonnesen, whose comment was that
it would be a tremendous challenge for even an excellent programmer.
Any comments?

[ The biggest part of the task is proving that the transformation
[ is accurate, and not simply "pleasant". That's why the inverse
[ transform -- the "Ampico-to-MIDI" converter -- is needed first.
