Seek Mechanism for Ex-Player Piano
By Don Teach

Re: 971014 MMDigest

In Mondays digest Seth Weinstein has my q-ro-sity (curiosity for you
non-QRS roll historians) up. What 1921 Knabe would have had shorted
keys for a player mech? None that I know of. In 1921 a Knabe would have
full size keys and the player parts would have been AMPICO. The roll
mech. and associated parts were in a drawer that was under the keyframe.
I would also guess 99.9% of all seven foot long Knabe players would have
been in plain cases with double legs (two legs instead of one) on the
three resting points for a grand piano. There is one real early Knabe
here in town that had the player mech. above the keyboard but is now
gutted unfortunately. The only other Knabe players from the 1921 era I
have seen were the Tel-Electric models (anyone need parts).
