Seek Leather Belting
By Wayne Johnston

Recently, Diane and I rebuilt a Melville Clark Apollo Player Piano.
The piano was in excellent condition but when it was purchased it was
missing the stack. Everything else was there. We found a player piano
technician in Chicago that just happened to have an Apollo stack that,
with some retrofitting, we were able to fit into this piano.

This stack has a clock mechanism that runs the spool box. The arm that
winds the clock spring is driven by a leather belt that is 1/4 to 5/16
inch thick by about 14 to 18 inches long. It has to be threaded
through a pulley system so it is not a continuous belt. We have had no
luck finding that size belt leather. We used a size smaller (1/8 to
3/16 in.) and it didn't work because it stretched too much.

If anyone out there knows of a supplier who has this size leather
belts, please let us know or if you have any suggestions we would
welcome them.

Thanks,,
