Types of Peerless Rolls
By Don Teach

Peerless made two types of "A" rolls and two types of "O" rolls. In my
experience most Peerless players with extra instruments played a roll
11-3/4 inches wide. The most common rolls in America are the "A" roll
that was 11-1/4 inches wide, as was the "G" roll and "O" roll. The
most encountered "A" roll in America is the 11-1/4 inch wide one with 6
holes to the inch, that does not have the holes to play drums.

Peerless instruments that play original Peerless rolls are rare, and
the rolls made by Peerless are very rare. The Peerless "F" was a
cabinet model that came with various different instrumentation.
Peerless made one style of "A" roll (also known as the Style "DX" roll)
that was 11-3/4 inches wide spaced 6-1/2 holes to the inch, which had
71 holes; these rolls are usually numbered in the 7,000's. Peerless
also made the 11-1/4 wide "A" roll.

Peerless made an "O" roll that was 14-1/2 inches wide and it, too, is
different than the Operators style "O" roll. Some existing Peerless
instruments actually play the Operators "O" roll and others play the
more common 11-1/4 inch wide "A" roll. All of this is confusing for
the collector.

I doubt the Peerless mentioned in the digest 1/9/97 uses the 11-1/4
wide "A" roll because that Peerless was said to have percussion that
the 11-1/4 inch wide "A" roll cannot play.

Disclaimer: The above are only opinions of mine and may or may not be
100 percent factual.
