I have been wondering for some time about how gelatin would act as a
glue.  I knew that gelatin and hide glue are one-and-the-same compound,
made primarily from bones.

I purchased some unflavored gelatin so it would not have any sugar.
I covered the fine gelatin powder with water just as I do with hide
glue.  The gelatin didn't absorb the water as hide glue does, but with
some mixing I was able to get a good amount of water in.  I heated this
to 145 degrees F and made what seemed to be very much like hide glue,
only clear.  I applied some of it to a piece of leather and a block of
wood.  The bond worked.

There is only one problem, the 4 very small packages of gelatin cost
me 69 cents.  Regular strawberry Jello (mixed mostly with sugar, I
believe) was only 59 cents.  Therefore, pure gelatin is very expensive.

Has anyone ever experimented with gelatin?  Maybe we should call Cosby?
