Leather for Pneumatics
By Bruce Clark

I found it interesting that .008" leather was used for bellows in a
Celestina organette.

Over twenty five years ago, I replaced the bellows in a cuckoo clock.
The original bellows were made of zephyr skin. At the time, I did not
have any zephyr, so used tan pouch leather. I also coated them with a
bit of neatsfoot oil.

It is interesting to note that the bellows have worked on the hour and
half hour for twenty five years, and the last time I looked at them
(about 2 years ago) they seemed to be in excellent condition and had no
signs of wear, and as I write the bellows just announced the hour.
