"White Metal" is "Hoyt Metal"
By Hal Davis

For the information of many people who persist in using the term "white"
metal.

Although it is commonly referred to as "white" metal, the correct name
is Hoyt metal. I presume for Mr. Hoyt who invented it.

I suspect it's a matter of Hoyt sounding similar to white when spoken
rapidly.

FWIW
