AMICA Convention Pumper Contest
By Terry Smythe

Just got back my photos of the AMICA Convention and had to share
with all the results of the annual pumper contest. Quite a few people
brought rolls with them and participated in this fun event to see who
can get the most life-like performance out of a standard 88n roll on
a pumper player piano.

All went well with many performances making a difficult choice for
the judges, until that is, Julian Dyer appeared just as the contest
was about to end. He had with him a new 88n roll of a Percy Grainger
composition never before in player piano roll form. It is so new that
sustain had not yet been coded in it.

Julian blew away the competition with a fine performance, setting a
very high standard for future years. The attached scanned photo shows
Julian being presented with the award by Conference Chairman Mike
Walter.

Once again, a great Convention with a good time had by all.
