I can't give you a correct answer to your first question.  I think, it
must be between 15 and 25 years ago.  I have a Thorens disc with the
tune Lara's Theme (number 1569); Wasn't it popular in the late 60s ?

Thorens has produced a movement version with a crank only, and a more
popular version with a spring to wind up.  I have seen and heard about
prices between 150 and 500 US$ for a box (spring version).  I bought
discs for between 5 and 15 US$.  I wouldn't pay more than 8 US$ here
in Germany.
