Rubber-Stamped Numbers on Piano Rolls
By John Phillips

Hi all. In yesterday's MMD (98.08.10), Frank Himpsl mentioned that he
had some sketchy information on the numbers that are rubber-stamped at
the ends or under the leaders of many piano rolls. If they could be
decoded, these numbers probably would tell us on what date a roll was
made.

Recently I cataloged all my 65n popular rolls and recorded all those
numbers in the hopes that some day they might prove informative. Is
your information worth sending in to MMD, Frank? If it is, I would
certainly like to read it.

[ Why don't you researchers get together and write an article for MMD
[ summarizing your findings, and then we'll gladly post the detailed
[ data at the MMD Archives ! Are there any folks in the UK who also
[ have data like this? -- Robbie
