Steinway Grand in UK
By John Farrell

Brian Chesters kindly sent me the details of the gutted Welte Steinway
grand to be auctioned in the north of England next week. Robbie - I was
not interested in it for myself. My daughter Alison (a fearsome sight-
reader) is on the lookout for a Steinway, Bechstein or Bosendorfer grand
- she says that she has outgrown the refurbished Broadwood overstrung/
underdamped upright with a very pretty figured walnut case (and original
brass candlesticks) which I gave her some years ago.

Apparently her problem is that after she has saved a significant amount
of money something else comes along and swallows it up. She is hopeful
of finding one soon without the usual price tag of an arm, a leg and a
shirt.

From Brian's information the Steinway to be auctioned appears have
suffered serious damage at the hands of a neglectful owner and upon
reflection Alison is going to let it rest in peace.
