Introduction & Cable Nelson Player Piano
By Doug Walters

It was suggested that I introduce myself. My name is Doug Walters.
I have recently acquired a 1913 Cable Nelson player piano. The player
mechanism does not work and the piano is in bad need of a tune. I
don't know anything about pianos, let alone players. I know the tubing
of the player mechanism appears to be original and about as rotten as
tubing can get.

My first thought was to get the piano tuned, so I can bear to listen
to it being played, and then try to replace the tubing in the player
mechanism and pray that that is all I have to do to it. If anyone can
reply to tell me if this is advisable, I would appreciate it. Also,
so far I am enjoying the Digest.

Thank you.

[ Welcome to MMD, Doug. I usually encourage folks in your situation
[ to locate a piano tuner/tech who is "not afraid" of old players,
[ and hire him to tune the piano and estimate the costs for further
[ repairs. You'll end up with a nicely tuned piano, and know a lot
[ more about it too. Good luck, and keep us posted! -- Robbie
