New Digital Recordings of Piano Rolls
By Bill Mintz

From: billtdas@aol.com.geentroep (Bill Mintz)

I received an inquiry from a MMD reader about the New Piano Roll
Recordings I announced in the 12-29-98 MMD issue. He asked what I
meant by "Digital Recordings". Since the answer to his question might
be of interest to other Readers, I am reproducing it here.

Thanks for your inquiry regarding my recordings. Following is the
process:

    1. Piano rolls are played on the George Steck upright piano, while
    2. They are recorded on Digital Audio Tape (DAT).
    3. Mixed and Mastered digitally.
    4. Transferred from the Digital Master to high-quality CrO2 Analog
       Cassette, and
    5. (To be ready in February) Transferred digitally to CD.

I'll Be glad to answer any questions readers may have.

Regards, Bill Mintz
