Pseudo Reproducing Pianos
By Bruce Clark

What a disappointment to find a fake Duo-Art! Back a few years, I saw
a "Welte-Mignon" decal plastered on a cheap and dreadful spinet player
piano. I guess someone must have bought the name, or the trademark
had expired.

The player transmission appeared to be made of pot metal, and under
the gears was a pile of metal filings which had slowly been grinding
off the transmission! To add to the "glory" of the player mechanism,
a cardboard supply tube resembling a paper towel core was attached to
the stack, and would nearly collapse in rhythm to the music, as the
player struggled along.

Of interest, I find the modern player, named "The Sting", to be
appropriate. We know who got stung!
