Autophone Hand-operated Organette
By Todd Augsburger

I think I may have given insufficient data in yesterday's request for
information regarding the complete label text, and the purpose of a
particular part. I understand that Autophone must have produced
different models. On the label mine has in gold type on black:

    ???
    BY THE
    Autophone Co.
    -ITHACA, N. Y.-
    H. B. HORTON'S
    PATENTS.
    ??? Dec. 3d, 1878

I'm also having trouble describing the part that I questioned. On the
top left (to the left of the black cover over the pressure roller) is a
flat brass loop, 1/4 inch in width, fastened with a screw in each end,
front and back, so that it may pivot to the left (matching the contour
of the wood, and largely unnoticeable) or standing upright (slightly
taller than the roller cover). It has a "slit" lengthwise, so that the
effect is two parallel loops. My only supposition is that it could be
used like a "paper clip" of sorts. Any ideas?

(It is visible in Bowers' Encyclopedia, page 756, at the _extreme upper
left_ of the upper left drawing, but I admit that it would be difficult
to see unless you already knew what I was talking about.)

Thanks again,
Todd Augsburger
