Hickman-Stoddard Ampico Artifacts
By Matthew Caulfield

Mr. Brady, An appropriate place to deposit your valuable
Hickman-Stoddard material mentioned in the last MMD might be IPAM
(International Piano Archives at Maryland).

Dick Howe decided on IPAM as the appropriate recipient of his extensive
document collection, after considering and rejecting other possibil-
ities like the Library of Congress and the Smithsonian Institution,
where he feared -- with justification -- that the material he spent a
vast amount of time and money accumulating would get lost and
neglected.

IPAM is small but focused sharply on the piano, particularly
reproducing pianos, and its music. It is located on the College Park
Campus of the University of Maryland, and so is only a half hour
outside Washington, bringing it into fairly close contact with the
informational riches of the capital city.

The Hickman-Stoddard artifacts would be welcomed, I'm sure, as an
appropriate adjunct to IPAM's collection of Ampico rolls.
