Damper Springs in Upright Piano
By Larry Mayo

A small question for those in the group. I'm working on the dampers
of my Monarch upright, and wonder how heavy the replacement springs
should be. I understand that some of them are sprung more heavily that
the others. I presume that these would be the tenor dampers.

Is the varied spring weight used in all uprights, or is the Monarch
equipped with all the same weight spring? Which, and how many dampers
should get the heavier springs? Which wedges give better results, the
1-3/8, or 1-3/4?
