New York Times Web Site Policy
By Ed Gaida

My post about the article on Wayne Stahnke in the New York Times and
Robbie's comment afterwards prompts me to fill in the MMD on the Times
web policy. Not only do they use the information you provide when you
register to compile "statistical" data, as they call it, they log your
IP address and if your computer will not accept a "cookie" they deny
you access. I have asked that they provide me with an oatmeal-raisin
cookie, as it is my favorite.

Access to the archives is NOT free. You must provide your credit card
number (!) and each time you access an article they charge your card
$2.50.

Since you are required to give them your email address, I gave them one
that I have on one of the "free" mailbox sites. Sure enough, even
though I checked the "No email" box, this morning there was an email in
my "ghost" mailbox.

They also reserve the right to share your information with their
advertisers! That should be warning enough to potential subscribers.
Just thought y'all would like to know.
