Glass Harmonica

There are a number of web sites on the glass armonica (note
the spelling) which you can find by doing a web search under the
term "armonica." One of the more comprehensive sites is

I hope the inquirer does not think that the glass armonica is a
mouth organ made of glass.  It is not.

 [ Jan Kijlstra reported in MMD 970907 that early descriptions
 [ of glass harmonicas go back to 1677, almost 100 years before Ben
 [ Franklin built his "armonica".  Most dictionaries and reference
 [ books on musical instruments call it the "glass harmonica".
 [ (I haven't discovered yet why Franklin dropped the "h".)  Much
