Mission Style and Craftsman Style Pianos
By Jim Canavan

Actually, Stickley _did_ build some freestanding, upright (non-players)
pianos. The works were made in Germany (85-key) and the cases were
designed by famed Stickley designer Harvey Ellis. Two are known to
exist: one is owned by Mission aficionado Stephen Spielberg, and the
other is owned by Gustav Stickley's great-grand-daughter (photos of
this one have appeared in several books on craftsmen style).

I have seen photos of many "mission-style" uprights (see Bowers,
p. 266, upper right photo for a great mission player upright). Being
a Mission furniture fan and collector myself, I'd _love_ to have one!
