Carousel Music in "The Sting"
By Andrew Barrett

Hi everyone. There have been some questions circulating about
"The Sting" and the organ used to provide the soundtrack for the
carousel. A long time ago, I read somewhere that it was the 153
organ on the carousel used to provide music, but I'm not sure.

By the way, the last time I saw the organ (about a year or two ago)
it was out of tune, not regulated, and missing notes. There was a
Plexiglas window on the outside of the carousel for viewing the back
of the organ (which was to one side of and facing the carousel) and
the doors were open, exposing the duplex roll frames. I was fascinated,
despite the out-of-tune music, and mom couldn't drag me away!

I have a friend on the East Coast (I do not wish to disclose his name
or address) whose hobby is restoring and collecting automatic music.
I have been in touch with him by mail for quite a while now, and on a
past letter, he said somebody wanted his Wurlitzer 125 organ to provide
music for a movie. The director insisted that the organ play "Rings On
My Fingers" so when a copy of the roll couldn't be found, my friend
decided to try punching it himself! Just thought I'd let you know.
