Visiting Barcelona
By John McClure

I have intended to report on musical interests in Barcelona since
my return in February so here it is, a little late.

The home of Gaudi has an interesting upright player with an extensive
roll collection. The main Antique mall located on the extension of
the Ramblas has several fine music boxes and phonographs and an Orpheus
player zither for sale. In the Gothic quarter near the old cathedral
there are many small antique shops, one specializing in phonographs,
and lots of other incredible stuff from roman coins to Dali's. I liked
the Sunday flea market near the Columbus monument on the waterfront.

Barcelona is a wonderful city, full of visual and gastronomic treats.
I enjoyed staying in a Grand old hotel called Hotel Grandvilla, and a
day trip to Montserrat is not to be missed. I found 10 days there only
time to touch the surface of this ancient and gracious place,

Regards, John McClure
