Songs You Never Want To Hear Again
By John Rutoskey

I didn't have a lot to do today, and I just read Joyce Brite's article
about "songs you never want to hear again", and would like to comment.
Here's some of my ideas on the subject:

Top ten post-mechanical music songs I never want to hear again
in my life in any format:

 1) The Lion Sleeps Tonight (without a doubt No. 1 on the list)
 2) Da Butt
 3) Do It Like They Do It on the Discovery Channel
 4) Rock Around the Clock
 7) Anything by Elvis Presley except "Surrender"
 8) In The Mood, A String of Pearls, Pennsylvania 6-5000, etc., etc.
 9) My Heart Will Go On from "Titanic"
10) Stayin' Alive

Top ten mechanical music-era tunes I never want to hear again
on any machine or see on a roll or record:

 1) Entry of the Gladiators (again, without a doubt, deserves the
    No. 1 spot)
 2) Any march that's been played to death, you know the ones I mean.
 3) Any semi-classic waltz that's been played to death; notable
examples: Blue Danube, Strauss pieces, The Skaters; you get
    the idea.
 4) Margie
 5) Whispering (this tune can actually make me nauseous)
 6) Barney Google (this tune _does_ make me nauseous without fail)
 7) Yes! We Have No Bananas
 8) Yes Sir, That's My Baby
 9) Twelfth Street Rag
10) Singin' in the Rain

This list could go on and on...!

Top ten post-mechanical music tunes I think it would be fun
to hear arranged for machines even though it probably can't happen:

 1) Sarah MacLaughlin "Aidia"
 2) Oasis "Don't Look Back in Anger"
 3) Gary Numan "Down in the Park"
 4) Boys 2 Men "Song for Mama"
 5) Annie Lennox "Why"
 6) Soundtrack from "Edward Scissorhands"
 7) Beatles "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" (I want
to hear this on a Wurlitzer 165 band Organ)
 8) Siouxsie and the Banshees "Face to Face" from Batman
 9) The Pipkins "Gimme Dat Thing"
10) Squirrel Nut Zippers "Hell"

I told you I had time to kill today...
