Wurlitzer Orgatron Reeds
By Fritz Gellerman

Re: 000427 MMDigest

The Wurlitzer Orgatron used free reeds similar, but not identical, to
those used in traditional reed organs. The vibrating tongue was riveted
to the brass frame, and mounted on a bakelite block, four reeds to a
block. The tongues were longer and narrower than the traditional reeds,
I assume to enhance different modes of vibration. Three capacitive
pickups spaced along the tongue presumably picked up different wave
shapes.
