Apollo Combination Player Piano & Phonograph
By Marc Sachnoff

Dear Fellow MMD'ers: Doug Rhodes writes of an Apollo player in
combination with a phonograph. I purchased one of these in Evanston,
IL in 1973. It was lettered Apollo-phone on the fallboard. Evidently
some roll company made 78-rpm records with accompanying player rolls
for this unusual system. Imperial? For moving the music roll it had a
spring motor, wound through the pedals, allowing unassisted rewinding.

There was no apparent method of coordinating the tempi of roll and
record. I sold the piano before it was restored so I never got to
attempt this quaint combination. The purchase price: $150. Had to
borrow the money from my folks. Very heavy piano. That piano is now
in Salt Lake City, Utah. Thanks for stirring a few memories.
