Bob,  I couldn't resist responding to your note in MMD regarding
a neglected player.  This is not really that uncommon.

While the Gulbransen was a relatively cheaply made instrument, it was
also very well engineered and built with good materials.  Other advice
to the contrary notwithstanding, it can be brought up to pitch.  It
will take several tunings, and because many Gullies were three-quarter
plate pianos, it should be pitch-raised over several tunings so it
won't have to be raised more than a full tone at one time.  This will
minimize the risk of bridge damage or subjecting the plate and pin
block to uneven stress.

Curiously, my name is also Robert Hunt!  I have been restoring player
pianos as a hobby for 35 years, including more than a few Gulbransens.
