Les Lovesee has indicated that there are two basic types of RTV: one
contains acetic acid and has a strong vinegar smell as it cures, the
other is based on something else.

The RTV that I have been testing does have this strong vinegar smell.
I am interested if the acetic acid in the RTV can affect the pouch
leather.  Is the acetic acid only active when curing?  Could it
continually attack the leather and weaken it after being cured?

I have heard about this product being used as pouch sealer for the last
two to three years.  No one has indicated that they have seen any
problems.  This doesn't mean that there aren't problems.

I get the feeling that the older types of rubber cement also contain
acids.  I have seen acid-free advertising on rubber cement bottles.
Does this indicate that most of the products did have some acids in
them?
