Recutting Stravinsky Firebird Rolls
By Ed Chaban

Back when I was having the Malones "cut to order" for me, I was
approached by an individual (name escapes me) about recutting these
rolls. He said only one complete copy of the Firebird was known to
exist and any recutting would have to be done one at a time for fear
of losing them in some sort of disaster. He said the owner would not
do it any other way.

I don't know how true all this was, but it's what a recall from a
phonecall I received nearly 8 years ago. Firebird is not my favorite
composition, but I'd gladly sign up for a copy of that set of rolls.

Anyone interested in the Cortot rendition of the Hungarian Rhapsody #2
I mentioned some time ago? People really need to speak up if we want
someone to recut these rare rolls. I'm still convinced that most of
the roll supply problems we have are due to fear of producing titles
that won't sell. We need to make the recutters comfortable about
their recutting decisions.
