I share my old friend Cecil Grace's concerns about the open pot of mercury
in the Welte original.  Faced with the same problem I retained the original
rather rustic-looking switch assembly but bypassed the dangerous contacts
by substituting a sealed-in-glass mercury switch mounted on the arm.  It's
a simple method that keeps a certain integrity to the original.
